I struggle with confidence to a certain extent. I'll easily to talk to most people and not care in most social situations, but if I'm confined to a workplace such as a classroom, for some strange reason I can be the complete opposite...and can get embarrassed easily.

All very strange. I'd suggest trying not to care what people think.
