Michael Jackson's former doctor Conrad Murray has been formally charged with involuntary manslaughter over the death of the singer.

Murray is expected to be arraigned at 1.30pm PST, but will likely enter a plea of not guilty.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ, the Los Angeles District Attorney alleges that the physician "did unlawfully, and without malice, kill Michael Joseph Jackson... in the commission of an unlawful act, not a felony; and in the commission of a lawful act which might have produced death, in an unlawful manner, and without due caution and circumspection".

Murray and his legal team are thought to be attending the hearing. Bail is estimated to be set at $25,000 (£16,000).

Murray administered the painkiller propofol to Jackson just before he passed away, which the LA County Coroner's office has since ruled to have played a direct role in his death.

If found guilty, the doctor faces up to four years in prison.
