Default The nation’s driving habits

I saw this in The Sun online today

Hedgehog horror car toll

By NEIL SYSON

DRIVERS run over around 273 hedgehogs on Britain’s roads every day.

And there is grim news for our BADGERS — with cars squashing about 137 during a typical 24 hours.

The figures were revealed yesterday in a survey of the nation’s driving habits.

On an average day 3,378 speeding fines are issued — and 745 drivers lock themselves out of cars. Meanwhile 15,068 make insurance claims.

On the motorways 9,041 fried breakfasts are sold — many to truckers who cover 107million miles in 430,000 lorries.

The figures compiled by Auto Express magazine show a third of the 62,000 vehicles taken for an MoT on a typical day fail.

Drivers buy nearly 74million litres of petrol and 29million of diesel.

The Government pockets £104million a day in motor-related taxes.

As well as hedgehogs and badgers, 110 deer are killed — and 14 birds of prey. Grimly nine people also die on the roads.
