rsenal boss Arsene Wenger could secure a transfer coup after Ingolfur Sigurdsson enjoyed a successful week long trial with the Gunners.

Both Arsenal and Manchester United offered the 17-year-old trials, but Sigurdsson turned down the offer from the Old Trafford club to spend time in north London at Arsenal's training ground.

The ‘Dennis Bergkamp effect’ could see Arsene Wenger snap up another talented youngster from overseas, in the shape of a player in the mould of the Dutch Master himself.

The Arsenal manager is said to be keeping a close eye on Ajax’s 18-year-old starlet Christian Eriksen who has broken through to the first team amidst glowing reports from boss Martin Jol.

Arsenal legend Bergkamp, currently coaching at Ajax, has reportedly informed Wenger about Eriksen’s exceptional talent, and urged the Frenchman to make his move before he signs a new long term deal with the Dutch giants.

Eriksen, an attacking midfielder, is said to be perfectly suited to the ‘Dennis Bergkamp role’ and the young Dane was crowned the Danish Under-17 Talent of the Year in 2008.

Eriksen has had trials at Chelsea and Barcelona before signing a three-year deal with Ajax in 2008.

His talent and potential is known far and wide, and Ajax coach Jol knows he faces a fight to hang on to the gifted youngster. Which is why he’s eager for Eriksen to sign an extended deal before the vultures start circling in earnest.

“Christian recently turned 18 and we can now offer him a lengthy contract. His current contract is due to expire in the summer of 2011,” said Jol.
