Corrie has always been much more calmer, less dramatic and has much more humour than Eastenders does. They're both completely different shows, the only similarity is that they are both long running.
Corrie is what it is, and they don't have to adapt at all. It has lasted 50 years for a reason.
Corrie's live episode was for nothing more than going back to its roots when it went out live every day and it was a sort of tribute show and iirc they broke down the barrier and thanked viewers for watching ... for Eastenders it was for completely different reasons.
