Oscar ballots close it approx 24 hours, then the fate of Hurt Locker producer Nicolas Chartier's will be decided.

For those who haven't heard, Chartier sent an email urging Academy voters to vote for The Hurt Locker and '"not the $500m film". It was intended for a few selected members, but the silly idiot sent it to everyone - including his rival filmmakers! The Academy are likely to take his name off the nomination list due to this rule break. There have also been speculation of The Hurt Locker being disqualified altogether, but I really don't see this happening.

Also, I was unaware of the new voting system they have this year for deciding 'Best Film'. Instead of simply voting for one film and the majority vote wins, the voters are asked to rate the films 1-10, with the highest average getting the award. With Avatar and The Hurt Locker being the 2 leading films, some voters/haters may have ranked them both much lower than what they actually think - meaning a film like Inglorious Basterds or Precious could sneak in and take gold! Watch this space...
