Generally speaking thats highly unlikely, viruses are however sent in attachments added to emails
Read emails remotely, ideally as text as opposed to as html, via something like mail 2 web, dont open attachments without scanning even if they are from trusted sources and get yourself a decent anti malware(anti virus and anti spyware) program and use it.
