Thumbs down EA to charge for online use (including on the Xbox)

EA Sports titles purchased second-hand will charge a fee for online content.

Starting with the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11, all games must require an Online Pass to access internet services, such as multiplayer.

In a bid to pirate second-hand sales, only new copies of the release will come with the pass for free, leaving other users an option to pay $10 (£6).

The Online Pass will be unlockable within the game, and will allow all users on that system to access the content.

The scheme will be rolled out in all future EA Sports titles.
