It is contraception as it stops an egg being implanted into the wall of the uterus if fertilised, it also makes the womb totally inhospitable to sperm, to stop fertilisation taking place if it hasnt already happened.

In effect it carries out the same actions as some birth control pills only its a lot stronger and acts quickly, carrying out the same action that is built up with normal hormonal contraception without the need to use it for a while for effectiveness.

It doesnt cause abortion/miscarriage because they are the termination of a pregnancy, to be pregnant a fertilised egg needs to be implanted into the uterus lining.
