I understand for most it's probably just a joke, but I detect some genuine hatred of the English in some factions of this support. I guess it must be envy. We're the richest, most populous, most picturesque and important nation, after all...

Most important.. pah! Why is it the only country in the UK that doesn't seem to have any national identity (apart from notorious football fans) The Scots have our own national dress, our own national dress, our own national drink, our own national anthem and even our own language..
I'm don't want to get into an argument over this but I'm sorry, I can't/won't be supporting England.. It's not a hatred of all things England, I just can't bring myself to support your team
