and important in terms of population, contribution to the economy, land mass, etc.
As for the lack of identity - English? Really?
Tudors, Stuarts, Chaucer, Shakespeare, St. George... they just appear less obvious because we don't harp on about being a separate glorious 'nation' like the underdogs do
