I don't think she is devoid of a sense of humour. Actually I don't remember the last time Ben smiled myself, he doesn't seem to like tasks either.

It's not just jokes either, sometimes he snaps at her for something at that starts off an argument. Sunshine just asked who had wrote with some egg on the window and Ben just snapped at her saying she should never have asked that as if it was a terrible crime to ask.

Every small thing of course is exaggerated by the confined circumstances of the house. Mario is no friend to Sunshine though and Dave just seems to keep quiet at times. Corin is probably frightened of Ben the way she keeps out of it.
