Apostrophe I also find to be really accessible and I suspect he was influenced by funk music, particularly George Clinton, at this point.
All in all, Zappa is very hard to pin down. I love some of his music, while I could go my whole life without ever listening to some of it again. His attempts to parody and lampoon the punk genre particularly miss the mark for me. He even tried his hand at modern composition, but I have yet to hear any of that.
