Fame Academy, the £4.5m reality show that was dubbed "Lame Academy" by critics before belatedly becoming a ratings success, is making a surprise return to BBC1.

Auditions for the next series will begin around the country shortly. Although a BBC spokeswoman refused to confirm when the series would be broadcast, it is likely to go out in autumn with Cat Deeley and Patrick Kielty again presenting.
