I don't know if Dave is a prude or not but I bet his wife felt better hearing that he wasn't impress by Keev's baps. Maybe he was sending a message home without directly communicating. I know that my Mrs would feel reassured if I had been in the same situation and did what Dave did... whether I believed it or not.
