Yep, same in the UK where the real devoted 'hardcore audience' is made up of not just gays but also that type of youth who 'identify' strongly with that subculture/scene.
Yes, I think the explanation is fairly simple - they want to catch David saying something about homosexuality being a sin or wrong etc.. then (if possible) show him up as a 'hypocrite' or whatnot,
and,
watch the phone votes just go over-the-top with zealous 'gay rights defense' mega multi-voting from that 'core' audience.

The problem is that David is not 'homophobic' and has a fairly moderate and empathetic view on this issue and even the editing and BBLB comments on come across as 'desperate'.

Maybe if David came across more as a 'parent' to this audience? Then they could stir up more hate I think.
