Looking at her in nuts she was obviously after fame. i find it hard to believe someone out for fame would have given up so easily. could it be that when they found out how Hms felt about sam and saw how boring Laura was they secretly asked her to fake an issue so she could walk and they would bring in the ideal hm at this stage?
I never really understood why she left anyway
