Firstly, as the article states, it wasn't illegal at the time he did it.
I actually voted "more favorable," because it simply tells me more about Pete's life and what he's been through. To have gone through the bullying that came from his Tourette's as a child, and having seen his friend die in front of him, I'm hardly suprised that he would have some dark times in his life.
I certainly don't fault him for taking Special K. When I was around the same age (22), I did Special K a few times myself. Looking back, I probably should have been a lot smarter and not done it, but there's a reason the phrase is "young and stupid."
It's a party drug, but it really shouldn't be. You get introduced to it in party settings, but what it really does is deaden and free you from the world and even yourself for a while. It's a very seductive thing, and not something I'd ever suggest.
I can completely understand why, having gone through what he did, he would have been seduced by K. I also think it's a testament to his character that he found his own way out of it.
That's why my opinion of Pete is enhanced now.
