Shes the kind of girl that in the outside world would drunkenly flirt with another man in the hope that it would make John jealous enough to 'fight for his woman' whilst she stands back and basks in the glory

Either that or its all completely fake, I think they may well have concocted this whole story before the show even started, which would explain why they both laugh after they've had a shouting match. Josie being all touchy feely and clingy with him and professing her love was probably not part of the plan which is why John is always pulling away from her.
