Posting on her official Twitter page yesterday after a wedding, the 48-year-old star confessed: 'Even got a gorgeous cupcake past the gastric band.'

The British Obesity Surgery Patient Assocation advises post-operative patients: 'You need to get to grips with a healthy eating plan if you are going to get the best results from your surgery.

'You can out–eat a band but this does seem pointless when you have put yourself through the major step of having surgery to control your obesity.'

There's even the danger that if you over eat - you're not supposed to have more than an eggcup-full of food at a time - you can even dislodge the band, causing serious complications.

The mother-of-two had the operation, where the size of your stomach is reduced using an adjustable band so that you can only eat small meals, in Belgium.

Patients are then supposed to live on 1,000 calories a day for the rest of their lives - but many patients find a way around it, and then fail to lose any weight at all.

But it seems Vanessa is already falling back into her old ways. Talking before the surgery, she told OK! magazine: ‘I have lost lots of weight in the past, but the same thing always happens – I lose it.

'I’m really thrilled, so I celebrate with a piece of cake and that’s yo-yo dieting.'
