Of course he was interested in whatever she had to say. However he feels. He wasn't showing emotion either way so quit trying to interpret when you have nothing to interpret.
Its obvious they care for each other. Just how much is something only they really know. For you to try and imply he's suddenly disinterested in what she has to say is just silly.
