If you want MSN to appear in the system tray (next to the clock) instead of the taskbar, right click on the windows live program icon, choose properties, click comparability tab and set to "Windows Vista". Then open messenger
As for Microsoft office, it will automatically create a restore point when you install/uninstall, so look for that.
