Of course he really fancied the first Rachael. He did from the moment she first worked through the doors, I remember his words being something along the lines of, "Oh looks it Beyonce, my luck has changed". He reminded me a little bit of the geeky boy at school who has a crush on the pretty, popular girl but she didn't know he existed and he couldn't pluck up the courage to do anything about it.
I never believed he fancied Rachel 2 at all, she clearly irritated the hell out of him and he irritated her. She only wanted Ben for a storyline for herself.
