Sorry, but I'm pretty sure it is the popular opinion that members prefer mods to actually interact with them.... And even so, just because members get chosen to be moderators it doesn't make them instantly want to stop chatting and that you know :/
I dont get this whole us and them mentality, it is people like you that are creating the problem here.

I'm not necessarily saying it's wrong - it's just different. The only difficulty I see it that it leads to feelings of bias, which is exaserbated when mods start bringing-in things from offsite.
When mods have particular groupings of pals (and are seen to be engaging-in/leading chatter) within the user group or from MSN, whatever - then (rightly or wrongly) my perception is that they will be unable to act in an objective/value neutral way.
When thre proportion of mods to active users is low this probably ain't even a consideration. When mods start outnumbering users I believe it is.
The site still amuses me no-end probably for these reasons which is why I'm addicted to it.
