You have a point. I wouldn't want my parents seeing me talk about bumming.
But I feel that at the heart of this is a basic fear of being gay itself. This is how Rich sees it. But if there is another reason, Michael won't get into a conversation about it, and Rich can't find the real reason.
Michael does say he doesn't want to totally define himself by sex. But that's an insult to Rich and most flamboyant gays.
Michael is being judgmental.
