I think you're right about the original from the 1970s. It must still have been officially banned in the UK by the early 80s when Betamax/VHS became affordable......it got a reputation as one of the first 'video nasties' as it quickly became an 'under the counter' tape available from video rental places. There was also outrage that teens could be watching such stuff at home while the parents were out.

This is the remake.

Funny how times have changed with the advent of the internet. It's now acknowleged that 13 and 14 year olds are routinely downloading X-rated and porn films where parents haven't put in the correct restrictions
