Burning DVD's takes way too long unless you've got a DIVX DVD player and can just drag and drop on to the DVD.
If you're laptop's relatively new you might have a HDMI output. Mines 2 years old and has one. Then you can just use that to connect it to your telly and as long as it's on your laptop in full screen you'll only see it in fullscreen on the telly.
Alternatively (what I do), if you've got an XBox360 you can get an external Hard Drive, drag and drop your movies on to there, plug it into the USB on your XBox and play it through "Video Library"
