Default Why were/are Brits obsessed with Don't Stop Believin'?

From what I've read, this is a relatively new song for many people in the UK who were unaware of its existance before the X-factor or Glee. Based on this song's performance last year in the UK charts one would be amazed that it's a 30 year old song and the singer has not yet passed away. There even was a show in the UK (before it got cancelled) called Don't Stop Believing. Anyways, I've found several clips from the past year and it seems the song has finally taken the UK by storm...

I was always aware of this song as it was a huge hit in the States when it came out in 1982. But it flopped in the UK when it came out in 1982. So why is it the Brits like the song all of a sudden?
