I think that is exactly what they need to do because it is the only way it can evolve and progress again in its new set up. I don't think it's either a good or bad thing, as the 3rd option put it it is worth a try though.
Doing that will mean it can only be improved and therefore get even better,meaning likely lots of new series of it in the future.
