1. "Hunky Dory", David Bowie

Okay. Having 'Life On Mars?' is really enough to cement it in the top 10. But I've picked this top, and have said it's my favourite album for a fairly long time now, because of how cross-generational the songwriting is. There's childish honky-tonk happy-go-lucky piano tunes like 'Changes' and 'Queen Bitch', there's overblown and slightly nonsense extravagance in 'Life On Mars?' and 'Eight Line Poem'... but two of my favourite tracks from it are the precautionary ones, 'Oh! You Pretty Things' and the tribute to his first son, 'Kooks', which is just deliriously happy with pride, humour and father-to-son messages. It's by no means his most important or defining record but it's just packed with infectious, bouncy, chirpy tunes. And that is the end of my list.
