There's a lot to see in the Borders district if you don't want the full trek past Stirling/Edinburgh and beyond.

If you're up for a longer trek: Perthshire, trossachs, have lots to offer and at this time of year, the scenery is simply breathtaking.

Places like Inverurie - smashing little hotel is a great base and is very reasonable (does 'aprtments' at good value)
