Again, that's Patrick Watson's doing. Colin Piggot and Marcus Blee got it right and made presentable houses the viewers could relate to and perhaps want to live in themselves. Watson's houses used the tacky and gimmicky themes or absurd features such as the outdoor showers in BB6 or the everything in the wrong place theme of BB8. Ok he gets that the house is another character itself and most of the time he's made it presentable and 'interesting' to say the least but of the 3, he's the one who's gone overboard with the themes. But the fact remains every series has had a theme though.
