I don't know why it gets slated as much as it does as I think it was a decent enough twist. Some people seemed to take them breaking up the couples as an admission that it failed, but it was obviously always going to play out like that so one it got down to the jury stage people played as individuals.
It was also obvious someone from the evicted couples would re-enter individually - although of course they completely screwed that up by having the viewers vote and then giving the HMs another option (returning that nights evictee).
Perhaps one reason people didn't favour it was it was another casting twist - from BB4 to BB9 the twists each year were all somehow linked to the casting, and that's something they've moved away from now.
I'd still love to see them do a proper Rich/Poor divide. They're half way there now with the Have Not room and Slop, but it would be so interesting to see the houseguests physically divided and how that affects the gameplay, especially with the poor HMs not being able to go to the HoH room and collude with them in secret.
