Ravenholm is probably the high point of the game and a welcome reprieve from the seemingly endless canal levels. I still think it pales as a game in comparison to the original Half-Life because the wow factor fades pretty fast but it's obviously a very decent game.
Episode 1 is a serviceable follow up but Episode 2 is the game at it's best. Wait until you get to that.
