Cher Lloyd has insisted that her new single topping the charts will "shut a lot of people up".

The singer, whose debut track 'Swagger Jagger' is on course to top the charts this Sunday, said that she was surprised by the song's success and that her detractors will have to "eat their own words".

Lloyd told Digital Spy of the song's midweek chart position: "It's good, isn't it? I didn't really expect it, if I'm honest. I'm not complaining, though! I thought it would either go all the way or completely miss the Top 20."

Asked if she thinks the public's perception of her is changing, she said: "I wouldn't say that yet, because we don't know how it's going to do overall.

"It has shut a lot of people up, though - in the nicest possible way! It will make people eat their own words."

Lloyd recently claimed that Tulisa Contostavlos will be the best judge on this year's X Factor panel.
