If anything he put a massive target on his back by changing Chima's nominations, because he then had Lydia, Natalie, Chima and Kevin all on his case. This obviously changed when Chima was expelled and they figured they didn't have the numbers.

It was a fix to keep Jeff. Up until that point, the "evil" side of the House (Jessie, Natalie, Lydia, Kevin, Chima, the likes) had control and three people from the "good" side (Braden, Laura, and Casey) were evicted. So how does Grodner change the dynamics? By giving America's favorite a huge power! He didn't even have to work for it. The Coup d'Etat wasn't preplanned, Grodner just threw it in last minute to save Big Jeff
