Google Buys Motorola's Smartphone Business
Google is buying Motorola Mobility - the company's smartphone and tablet business - for $12.5bn (£7.7bn) in cash.
Motorola's Droid X smartphone uses Google's Android platform
The move will give a boost to Google's Android platform according to both companies.
Phones and tablets that use the Android operating system are the major to Apple's iPhones and iPads.
Under the deal, Google will buy Motorola Mobility for $40.00 per share, a level 63% over the closing price of Motorola Mobility shares on Friday.
