Quote: In their fenced-off compound they're denied any contact with their loved ones, and the outside world. No phones, newspapers, radios or televisions. They're all alone... except for the millions watching and judging their every move.

Cameras and microphones are placed all over the house. Everything the housemates do is recorded and broadcast on television and the internet. They can't eat, sleep or chill out without the nation clocking their every move.

Yet somehow, the residents are desperate to stay in the Big Brother house. All the pain and embarrassment is worth the prospect of landing the title of Big Brother winner. All the stress of knowing that at any moment your housemates could be trying to kick you out!
On a regular basis, the housemates must nominate two or more of their fellow participants for eviction, but the viewers ultimately decide who has to leave. The last participant to leave the house wins the programme, and the huge cash prize that comes with it.
It's also a reality show, people keep going on about "it has to evolve". Adding music & silly effects are not evolving what is supposed to be a reality show, it being raw & real was part of the draw.
What a great post and reminder of what the original idea was intended to be.
How far we have strayed.

Let me show this via a friend first introduced to BB3:

I'm watching the nightly edited episode. He is confused.
Quote:
"This is stupid.. its just some people filmed talking and stuff in a house?"
Right!
But we are just watching the highlights. See they can't leave the house.
"Okay.. so what? So they just do stuff all day and show it later?"
Right.
But they are essentially 'jailed' in the house and further more have NO contact with the outside world. No clocks, no phones, no newspapers.. actually they are forbidden to know even if a war broke out.
"Oh.. that's kinda interesting. but still whats the point?"
Right.
But you see everything they do is recorded on live cameras and microphones ... every single word... there is not even any place to hide.
"Okay.. hmmm"
Right.
See those cameras? "yeah". Well just think.. there are thousands of people spying on them behind those lenses.. from their computers.
"Are you serious???"
Right.
In fact, right now we can go online and actually spy on them and eavesdrop on them.
"HOLY EFF THIS IS CRAZY!.... Are you serious??"

In fact, he NEVER watched live-feeds himself. He was just amazed KNOWING that the show was actually like that.. that it was a 'live feed' house.
He couldn't believe anyone would do that... even for a million pounds!

So you see. This is really something where one of the main draws is that very idea people are devoid of any privacy and are being watched.
Hence the 'Eye'.
The eye never blinks. Can you handle those big open eyes that never close???
Thats the contest.

Otherwise its just one of a 100 other reality shows. And then its just a fairly lame one.
