Lewis Hamilton has welcomed the news that Jenson Button has signed a multi-year deal to stay with McLaren.
Button joined McLaren on the back of his world championship success with Brawn GP - now Mercedes GP - and the Briton has enjoyed a good relationship with Hamilton.
Both drivers were involved in a thrilling championship in 2010, which was eventually won by Sebastian Vettel, but they have endured mixed fortunes this season with Button currently second in the standings.
The 2009 world champion had made it clear he wanted to extend his stay and Hamilton is pleased he has finally put pen to paper on a new contract.
"It's great news that Jenson has chosen to stay with Vodafone McLaren Mercedes," he said. "Jenson has been a great person to work with, and a genuine team-player, from the moment we welcomed him on board.
"Vodafone McLaren Mercedes is a team with a unique and successful tradition in Formula 1, which I'm proud to be part of.
"It was the best moment of my career when I won the drivers' world championship with this team. Jenson and I are as hungry and as ambitious as ever to win races and world championships in the future."
