I usually agree with you, and it could be that she was just putting on a brave face on TV. That could be the case as most mothers would see right through Rebeckah (most women do, never mind Mothers) though.
Most mothers tend not to let their sons learn their own lessons when the outcome is blatantly clear to see, but are naturally protective - and would try to steer their son in the right direction rather than seeing them go through the sore pain that is a broken heart - which is going to happen - at such a young age. I'm surprised at a mother 'seemingly' - as far as the viewing public are concerned, be happy to let this one take it's own course with her condoning it (as she appeared to be doing).
I hope you are right - that it was just a front, and that behind closed doors - she - as well as his father and brother - will put him right. Then if he continues; he cannot say he wasn't well warned.
