Its a mix of both. You can play the game perfectly, but if the public dont like you, its no good as you would fall at the final.

I guess if you got all of the public loving you, it doesnt really matter how well you play the game as you could be up for eviction every week and you would be saved, and then go on to win. But I think its impossible to get everyone liking you. And at some point, if you were up all the time, you would go (look at marcus, survived 8 evictions...I think it was...but eventually left)
