Unfortunately I lived and grew up with someone who was far far worse than Denise - and believe me - alcoholics are the most selfish, self absorbed people in the world who blithely stumble through life not realising the havoc they wreck along the way - and they are experts on deflection and in rounding up pity, all the while focusing on themselves and how they feel only.

Me too, My stepfather was the worst kind of alcoholic & I can see quite a lot of similarities (not all) in her behaviour, mostly deflection and not acknowledging responsibility.
