Michael probably did something there but I didn't hear it when I watched it, so Denise's reaction was just out of the blue and didn't go well down with me. I know Michael was a bit unpredictable at times, but mostly he was easy to read and Denise just couldn't read him (to give you an example: if Michael goes to the bedroom by himself, I think he's out of bounds then and wants to be alone).
