An entire town in Spain is celebrating after winning a massive lottery draw, except for one man.
Around 70 households from the town of Sodeto bought a ticket together, and collectively won the $950 million jackpot.
However, resident Costis Mitsotakis missed out when the town's homeowners group sold lottery tickets to raise money last year.
The minimum amount that a ticket would bring to a resident was $130,000, while others took home millions. The town largely consists of unemployed construction workers and farmers.
The Christmas 'El Gordo' lottery has become a national institution in Spain for the past 200 years, with tickets now costing $26. It was launched in 1812 and is considered to be the biggest lottery worldwide.
Mitsotakis explained that while he was sad not to have purchased a ticket, a winner from the town offered to purchase a piece of land that he had been struggling to sell.
"This is a small village," he told the New York Times. "You don't want bad feelings."
