I personally would not want anyone other than me or my parents and other family to walk our dog, I love taking him for walks.
I have him now with me while at Uni, but he is never alone through the day,there is always someone in the house with him but I am the only one at present who walks him.

As for picking up his stuff, I have no problem with that and always do.
As kazanne said,there is nothing wrong with dogs it's just the really bad owners some may have.
