I think it's pretty much an exercise in showing appreciation for Star Wars and not much else, they kind of don't really bother putting much effort into jokes in those episodes. I think it's been picking up again recently. I think it's clear that the show's going to wind down sooner or later with Mila Kunis becoming a Hollywood starlet now. It's obvious that they can only get her in for short periods of time, hence the Meg exclusive episodes and then her not even saying a line in most other episodes.
