At the risk of being screamed off the planet, I don't think it is entirely wrong to call Hitler a great leader. He did bring about massive social change, and inspire a previously downtrodden nation.
If he had been assassinated in say, 1936, he might have been thought of as one of the heroes of the 20th century
Unfortunately, the atrocities he went on to commit seem to crop up often where someone achieves great adulation and power. Napoleon, Genghis Khan, Alexander the Great etc are all probably considered as great leaders - but they were certainly responsible for some pretty nasty stuff themselves.
Don't forget 'Uncle' Joe Stalin was one of our allies against Hitler, and he is estimated to have been responsible for the deaths of about 20 million people.
