I think the OP has got it spot on and especially the analogy to the club scenario - sadly it happens all too ofter with lads of this type - the difference is in the outside world they can walk away and lick their wounds and blame the girl but in the house they are locked in together and can't get away so they have to justify the brush off and that's why it's turning nasty.
