That is just not true MTVN. While meat-eating is not a necessity, we are omnivores, built to eat meat, and it's a major source of protein. The standards of animal care in the UK are amongst the best in Europe. More and more people are buying Freedom Food, organically reared and free-range meat... More and more people are turning away from foreign-raised meat and conditions are improving all the time - and that is being customer-led.
Shooting an animal takes a lot of skill. Gamekeepers and people who keep the numbers of certain animals controlled, shoot to kill. Most people who blast away with a shotgun (or airgun) because it makes them feel hard have no conception of the damage they do to some animals who drag themselves away to die a lingering death. They should take up clay pigeon... but unfortunately for them you have to be a pretty good shot.
