Well, I think the difference is the interpretation of the word "written". Julian Clary actually writes his own books, whereas Katie Price has a ghost writer who can actually... you know... write.
I remember Naomi Campbell "writing a book", and when her agent was asked whether she's actually written it herself the answer was "while she didn't write it herself, she is very much the author".
